Dr. Torsten Fischer
Country Director - Germany, Jcurve
Dr. Fischer is Director in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences for Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation), the biggest research funding organisation in Europe.
Between 2009 and 2013, he was based in Delhi as the Country Director – India for DFG with two offices in New Delhi and Hyderabad. Here he worked towards maintaining and further strengthening the scientific and innovation bonds between India and Germany. In addition, he was also the Founding Director and Coordinator of the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH), a one-stop-shop for Indo-German Innovation Collaboration in New Delhi.
Dr. Fischer is Country Director for Germany at JCurve Ventures Pvt. Ltd. stationed in Bonn, he represents JCurve’s relationships with German organizations, and is passionate about exploring new ways of furthering the bonds between India and Germany.
On a pan-European level, he has worked with the European Research Council (ERC) as a National Expert on the Advanced Grant Scheme in the Social Sciences Unit, in the European Parliament as an Assistant to an MEP. He has also worked at the European Commission in the DG Education and Research.
Dr. Fischer has done his PhD (summa cum laude) with a study on poverty in Early Modern Europe from the Universities Kiel, Lyon, Aberdeen. The PhD dissertation was awarded the best of the academic year 2003 and the first publication in French language within the collection "Vierteljahreshefte für Sozial- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte" of the renown German publishing house Steiner.
Before his academic and professional career, Dr. Fischer was active in the German Army, from which he retired as Captain, decorated with the Bronze and Silver Cross.
