Mr. Gerrit Okko Uittenbogaard has a wide and successful experience in Water Management spanning over 35 years and is an Independent Senior Consultant for Water and Environment, Asia with Royal HaskoningDHV in The Netherlands.
He is the author of the following publications: FAO (I & D Papers): Yield Response to Water (co-author, 1979); Organisation, Operation and Maintenance of Irrigation Schemes (co-author, 1982); Nedeco (Land & Water International): Saline Coastal Habitats - Rehabilitation of Degraded Lands, 2001; and India Embassy, The Hague (India-Netherlands in Focus - 2010): Environmental Technologies, 2010
At Royal HaskoningDHV, Mr. Uittenbogaard is in charge of implementation of projects (Water and Environment) in India and Bangladesh, including: Water Management Feasibility Studies, Bangladesh, PPP for Irrigation and Agribusiness, Karnataka, India; and Integrated Water Management Investments Studies, India.
He is Water and environment specialist, Bangladesh and Member India “Landentafel” of Greenport Holland International.
From 1984 to 2012 Mr. Uittenbogaard was engaged with DHV Group, The Netherlands where he was Project Manager for various teams of consultants and was responsible for liaising with international finance agencies and donor agencies; representing DHV at international forum, seminars and trade missions; and liaison with Netherlands private sector companies (water, infrastructure, environment, agri-business);
From 2007 to 2012 he was Manager Water & Environment/DHV Asia and was involved in Developing new business initiatives in Asia with public and private sector in water, environment and agriculture sectors; Setting up a Asia Water Consultancy Group together with DHV National Organizations; Managing the Asia Water Office in India, Manager of a group of 30 senior international professionals; Support to the DHV National Companies in Asia with over 500 staff; Control of DHV Water Business for the Public Sector in Asia; Business development of water activities in Asia, especially in India and Asia Sub-continent.
Mr. Uittenbogaard was In charge of implementation of water and environment projects in Asia; Projects included: J&K Urban Investment Programme; India, Chennai/Bangalore Urban Water Projects, PPP for Ramthal Irrigation & agribusiness, India; Flood protection schemes in Bangladesh and Indonesia; Disaster management projects in Indonesia; Institutional development projects in various countries in Asia; Agro-Food parks, India; Kolkata Environment Improvement Project
From 2004 to 2006 Mr. Uittenbogaard served as Project Director/DHV Water and was responsible for the project acquisition and project backstopping of all water related projects in Asia; Development of new business initiatives; In charge of implementation of land and water development projects world –wide. Projects included: Water Supply and Sanitation in Uzbekistan; Flood protection schemes in Bangladesh and Indonesia; Disaster management projects in Indonesia; Water Quality projects in Philippines and Pakistan. Environment projects in Uzbekistan (solid waste).
From 2001 to 2004 Mr. Uittenbogaard was Director/DHV ANR and as Manager Land and Water Department was responsible for a group of 20 permanent professional staff in Development of new business initiatives in field of land and water; Strategy development for the Land and Water Activities; Project acquisition and backstopping of land and water
projects, world-wide. Projects included: water resource management and flood rehabilitation in Indonesia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Romania, Ukraine and Kosovo. Environment projects in Bangladesh (forestry) en Pakistan (water quality).
He was Team leader for the preparation of a new ADB investment loan for Integrated Water Management in Uzbekistan (2003)
From 1996 to 2002 Mr. Uittenbogaard was Project Director/DHV Consultants
and responsible for business development for land and water development projects world-wide; project acquisition and project backstopping; in charge of implementation of land and water development projects world – wide. Projects included: Water management in Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Institutional development in India, Peru, Romania and Egypt. Team leader for the project “Introduction of EU water policies in Estonia”. Water systems improvement in Bangladesh, Nepal and Indonesia.
From 1984 to 1996 Mr. Uittenbogaard was Senior Water Resources Specialist/Project Manager/DHV Consultants and was Responsible for project implementation; Water management training and management, Indonesia (one year); Planning and design, Ethiopia (9 months); Water management, Bangladesh. (3.5 years); Water management training, India (2,5 years); Water management, institutional strengthening, Sri Lanka (3,5 years). He was also Director of Environment Management Lanka PvT td (EML), Management of a Sri Lankan Consultancy Firm.
From 1981 to 1984 Mr. Uittenbogaard worked with World Bank/Government of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka. As Water Management Advisor he was Responsible for advise on project management & implementation within a large World Bank loan on Village Irrigation Rehabilitation (2,5 years); Formulation of water management strategies; Guidance and Monitoring of strategy implementation; Advise on Staff Development Policies and Management of the water division of Ministry of Agriculture; and Training Development for Head office and regional staff .
From 1977 to 1981 Mr. Uittenbogaard worked with FAO, Rome, Italy. Here he Co-authored two FAO water management publications(18 months). He was Responsible for project implementation; Rural development, water management, institutional strengthening, Ecuador (over 2 years); and Formulation/Identification of new donor financed projects for India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ecuador (short consultancy missions)
Mr. Uittenbogaard completed his University degree in MSc in Environmental Engineering from Wageningen University and Research, Wageningen, The Netherlands. He lives in Hilversum, The Netherlands.
