Mr. Luthra has been inducted in the M&A Hall of Fame, New York and is recipient of various awards including - 'International Jurists Awards 2013' for his "unique contribution in the field of International Cross-border transactions and Banking & Finance Law in India."; '2012 Lifetime Achievement Award' for his "accomplishments and achievements in The International M&A Sector" by the 4th Annual International M&A Advisor Awards 2012 in New York ; and 'National Law Day Award' for his "singular contribution to the practice of corporate and commercial law in India and for being one of the country’s earliest pioneers in international transaction lawyering” by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.
He has been closely involved with the development of Project Finance and Public-Private-Partnership models in India, advised on infrastructure projects worth over US$80 billion and his Firm being the global leader in this sphere has been recognized as the No.1 law firm in the world for ‘Global PFI/PPP Deals.’ He has been recognized as a leading lawyer in areas including Project Finance, Corporate Law and Mergers & Acquisitions.
Mr. Luthra has been appointed and nominated by SEBI on it’s High Level Committee for ‘Reviewing Insider Trading Regulations’ and its Committee on ‘Rationalization of Investment Routes and Monitoring of Foreign Portfolio Investments’ ; on Advisory Board of the Competition Commission of India and the Competition Advocacy Steering Committee ; on the expert panel to formulate a ‘National Competition Policy’ for the 11th Five Year Plan.
He has been appointed by the Ministry of Commerce as Convener of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) between India and the UK, formed to advise the Government of India on the liberalisation of legal services under the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS).
Mr. Luthra is a Member of the Round Table on Legal Education (a Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India initiative), he speaks at numerous law college campuses across the country and serves on the Board of Governors of the National Law School of India University, Bangalore and is a member of the Advisory Board of the National Law University, Jodhpur.
He is also a member of the City of London Advisory Council for India; the National Executive Committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the National Executive Committee of the Confederation of Indian Industry(CII).
Mr. Luthra serves on the Boards of The Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation (India) and Symphony International Holdings Limited, a London Stock Exchange listed company.
Some of the multinationals which he advices include, ArcelorMittal, AT&T, Emaar, ExxonMobil, Bank of America, the Blackstone Group, Goldman Sachs, Monsanto, Rolls Royce, Temasek, The World Bank, Reliance, the Planning Commission of India, the Government of India and government-owned corporations including the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines.
Mr. Luthra’s professional memberships include; Supreme Court Bar Association; the International Bar Association ; International Union des Avocats and the American Bar Association.
